Bellaire High School Class of 2022 has 13 valedictorians

The class of 2022 shattered final year’s file of graduates with good 5.0 GPAs.

HOUSTON — They say data are supposed to be damaged and at Bellaire High School, boy do they consider it. 

“That’s crazy! This is unheard of right,” stated senior Collin Crockett. “I’m amazed I’m a part of it.”

Last year there have been nine valedictorians at Bellaire High. That was a Houston ISD file. This year there’s a record-breaking 13 valedictorians.

“Since freshman year, it’s always been a goal, always a dream,” stated senior Owen Zheng. 

That dream is now a actuality now Owen. He’s one of 13 with good 5.0 GPAs. 

But their journeys getting thus far have been removed from good. 

“There were a lot of challenges that I had to get through,” stated senior Sophia Hernandez. 

“The pandemic was really hard because we went virtual completely,” stated senior Maggie Schwierking. “It was really hard to stay motivated in class when we were at home in our pajamas on the other side of the screen.”

Somehow they tailored and thrived.

“It speaks to a resilience one can’t teach,” stated HISD Superintendent Millard House II.

“Not many people can say a pandemic affected their high school experience and they still got a perfect GPA,” stated Hernandez. 

Bellaire High’s Class of 2022 are rivals that became pals and shattered data within the course of.

“We’re 13 valedictorians, everyone always helping each other,” stated Zheng. “We came out stronger.”
