Elderly man dead after police-involved shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A violent evening turned lethal in a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood after police stated officers have been pressured to fireside.

Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue responded Monday night after an officer-involved shooting. It occurred on Northwest 114th Street and seventeenth Avenue in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Originally, police had responded to a threatening cellphone name the place a man stated folks have been going to die and that he was going to kill somebody. He additionally demanded for legislation enforcement to be on scene.

Neighbors informed 7News the man made the decision in the world of his own residence.

Shortly after their arrival, officers from the North Side Division of MDPD encountered the man, 73-year-old Ernesto Battle, and stated he appeared to have a rifle in hand.

Officers tried to speak Battle into dropping the weapon and surrendering peacefully. It was unsuccessful, as, police stated, he appeared to look as if he was going to level the firearm on the officers, which led them to fireside.

Interim Director George A. Perez of the Miami-Dade Police Department stated this was a deadly police concerned shooting.

“The Miami-Dade Police Department through it’s 911 call center, received a call from an individual identifying himself as someone who was going to cause harm and kill someone,” stated Perez. “At a location, at a residence in his block. Furthermore the individual advised that if officers didn’t arrive within minutes someone would be dying. My officer attempted to deescalate the situation, a conversation with had, and the officer provided instructions to disarm and lay the firearm down. At some point the individual did not compile with the officers request and direction to deescalate the situation and disarm himself, and at one point there after, the officer discharged his firearm.”

“He helped whoever he needed to help,” stated Clara Mesa, member of the family. “No doubt, if he had a dollar, he’l’ give it to you.”

Family members of Battle stated he’s a father, a grandfather, and uncle. They love him very a lot and are distraught of the loss.

Battle lived very near the place the incident occurred, proper in entrance of his house.

The FDLE is now in cost of the investigation.

It remains to be being decided what sort of gun Battle had.
