White House Briefing Room empty except one person

The president-elect was talking — and the president himself was nowhere in sight.

This photograph from the White House briefing room summed all of it up Saturday evening.

In the foreground is a display screen exhibiting Joe Biden’s first speech as president-elect.

In the background is Donald Trump’s empty podium. A lone man sits within the viewers.

The shot was taken as Biden promised that he can be “a president for all Americans–” and as a defiant Trump braced for what he promised could be an onslaught of authorized challenges to the election outcomes.
